This is not what you get in my studio. In our days, this ancient therapy becoming more and more popular in the hasty world of Western culture goes back to a long history. More than 2,500 years ago it started out from India and conquered Southeast Asia. Its founder is said to be a physician from North India, Jivaka Kumar Bhacca who was Buddha's contemporary and friend, and the doctor of the then-ruling king of Magadha, Bimbisara and of the whole Buddhist order.
Massage techniques spread by word of mouth, generally within the families. The few remaining written material of knowledge, i.e. the nearly 60 illustrations depicting massage processes were made carved in stone on the walls of Wat Po in Bangkok by King Rama II in 1832. This wonderful place - where the famous lying Buddha is also found - is the center of massage education to this very day. In 1962 it opened its doors to the public and in 1991 to Kumthorn Tangtrongchitr.
Thanks to all those aspiring to learn and coming from every corner of the world, the Wat Po massage techniques became available to learn.
Classical Thai massage
Unlike Western massage techniques, in the case of Thai massage the primary aim is not to work on the musculature but to activate the energies of the body through rhythmic acupressure along the body's energy lines.
The disorder of energy flow can also be the cause of different sicknesses on the long run.
By discharging the energy blocks, the body's harmony is restored, its self-healing power is activated, thereby the immune system is strengthened, it frees you from pressure and you feel easy and relieved. The masseur works not only with his hands but also uses his forearms, elbows, knees and feet, too.
Thai massage is more than massage:
it combines the elements of acupressure, yoga, reflexology and chiropractice. It disengages the joints, stretches muscles, stimulates the different organs and vitalizes the whole body. Massage is rhythmic and very meditative: this is what makes it uniquely efficient, which means refreshment for the mind, body and sole alike.
And not least, there is one more important aspect for those shying away from massage: Thai massage is a so-called dry massage that is done through comfortable clothes, without oil and cream so even the shy ones do not need to give up pampering.
Thai massage with herbs
Massage is done with small balls stuffed with original Thai herbs, heated above hot steam.
As a common effect of heat and herbs, tense and painful musculature will relax and pain will be decreased.
Thai massage with aromatic oils
It is a blend of Thai and Western massage techniques. It stimulates circulation, lymph circulation and relaxes the muscular system.
Massage is done with aromatic oils combined according to the guest's mood and needs.
Thai foot massage
After a pleasant foot bath, the feet, the calves and the knees are pampered with special oils and herb cream. The masseur activates the reflex zones through a special pressure technique, for which she uses a wooden instrument.
As an effect of the foot massage, intensive relaxation comes about, stimulating the organs and the body's self-healing power.
"Hot stone", massage with hot basalt stone
Already 2000 years ago, the Chinese and the North-American Indians exploited the beneficial effect of the long-lasting heat accumulating ability of the volcanic basalt stone for healing different locomotive disorders. The modern form of this massage was elaborated by Mary Nelson at the beginning of the 1990´s for the enjoyment of many. More than 50 pieces of different-size, smooth-surface basalt stones are available for the massage, which are heated at least to 50 °C in hot water bath.
The body is anointed with hot oil and then the larger stones are located along the energy lines and the main energy center and the smaller ones are used for massaging. The feeling of hot, oily stones on the skin gives a very pleasant feeling. The heat transmitted by the stones penetrates deep into the akin, released the musculature, circulation and lymph circulation accelerate, it stimulates the discharge of excreta, releases the energy blocks in the organism and stimulates the body's self-healing power.Besides the hot stones, ice-cold ones are also employed, which are excellently suitable for letting off irritation and nervousness.
In our stressful and overdriven world, basalt stone massage has beneficial results for restoring the balance of body, mind and soul, and the organism will be filled with new energy and vigor.
Indian head massage
When sitting at the hairdresser, certainly many of you wish that hair washing lasted for at least half an hour longer and would like to have your dear Figaro pamper you a little more.
All this can be done without a haircut, with Indian head massage. With Indian head massage is still an organic part of everyday body care list like teeth-washing. We also admire and envy Indian women for their wonderful, long and shiny hair. But beautiful, strong hair and healthy scalp is not only women's privilege. Men also receive half an hour's vitalizing head massage when they visit their barber.
It is interesting to mention that the word shampoo comes from the Hindi word "champi" which means "I gave you a head massage ". The practice of Indian head massage passed down from generation to generation through the centuries; girls learned it from their mother and the boys generally learned it from their barber father. It came to Europe in the 1970s through an Indian immigrant Dr. Narendra Mehta who spread it in Great Britain with some changes in order to fit it to European needs.
In Indian head massage not only the scalp is massaged, but it includes the treatment of the shoulders, the upper part of the back, the face and the décolleté. In the course of head massage, the circulation of the hair bulbs becomes much better thereby hair loss can also be avoided or remedied in such a way. It relaxes the scalp, strengthens the muscles below the scalp and eases head- and eye-aches. Nowadays almost everyone suffers from tension, stress, bad carriage. Regularly applied Indian head massage puts an end to neck stiffness, fatigue, headache, migraine and it is often applied for treating ear-noises and sleep disorders, too. It releases the energy blocks in the organism. It facilitates deeper breathing, whereby the cerebral blood vessels will be provided with more blood rich in oxygen, thous concentration can be enhanced and memory can be improved. It ideally balances the problems of modern life. Massage can be done either as dry or by using warm oil as in the case of other Ayurvedic therapeutic massages.
"Hot Choocoa" massage
Chocolate makes you happy - this is no secret but now you can experience that it also makes your skin beautiful.
The hot chocolate balm - which is a blend of 100% raw cocoa mass and sweet almond oil or coconut oil - is spread on the body with a soft goat-hair brush. The alluring scent invigorates the senses. Whether it is only applied as a pack or as a pampering body massage, "Choocoa" means a wonderful feeling of "wellness" to skin and soul alike.
The antioxidant effect of cocoa is provided by the poliphenols found in bigger amounts in cocoa beans, which bind and neutralize the so-called free radicals that are responsible for the aging of skin, among others. The quality of the skin changes in a spectacular way: it becomes sensibly softer, smoother, youthfully fresher and tighter. Chocolate is known to be a synonym of enjoyment of life because of its anti-depressive effect but this deliciously fragrant blend pampers not only the senses but also the musculature. It is gratifying and aromatic, and soothingly tender. The result is silky soft skin and a euphoric feeling for full relaxation.
A little bit of cocoa history.
According to Alexander von Humboldt "there is no other plant in nature, in the case whereof so abundantly valuable nutrients can conglomerate in such a small place than in cocoa beans." The seed of the Theobroma cacao was cherished by Native Americans, primarily the Aztec and the Maya. The Latin name "Theobroma" received from Linné, meaning Gods' food, is a very pertinent one. Mexican Indians' ancient nutritious drink, chocoatl, was made from its beans. Cocoa beans were ground, blended with water or possibly honey and flavored with vanilla. Columbus also came across cocoa beans but he showed no special interest in it so it was brought to Europe by Cortez at the beginning of the 16th century. Initially the savor and flavor and of this wonderful drink could only be enjoyed by aristocrats but later on it became widely known. Until the 17th century it was only known as a drink and the first chocolate was manufactured with sugar imported from Cuba by nuns living in Guanaco.
Dear Sweet-Toothed, "choocoa" massage is a new solution for enjoying chocolate without a single calorie.
A cavalcade of tender touch, a fine scent and meditative music. Let us surprise and pamper you!
